Call for proposals (now closed)

The Stone Space is currently accepting proposals for four exhibition slots:

  • Slot 10: 8 September – 2 October 2016

For this slot we are inviting exhibition proposals involving sculptural artwork.

  • Slot 11: 6 October – 30 October 2016

For this slot we are inviting exhibition proposals involving photography to coincide with Photomonth.

  • Slot 12: 3 November – 27 December 2016

For this slot there is no theme, all exhibition proposals will be considered.

  • Slot 13: 3 December 2016 –  8 January 2017

For this slot we are inviting exhibition proposals relating to installation or 3d work that will have visual impact when viewed from outside the gallery as the gallery will be closed between 18 December and 5 January.

All media and exhibition formats (solo shows, group shows and residencies) will be considered and we are happy to accept applications from groups and curators as well as individuals.

To apply please download and complete our proposal form. Add all information and images you wish to submit as part of your proposal to the proposal document and save it as a pdf. Please note that submissions in any other format will not be accepted and please do not include links to images on websites, all information must be within the proposal document. The proposal form can be found here on this website along with a plan of the gallery that gives dimensions of the space.

Please note that the gallery is run by volunteers and receives very little funding. To cover basic costs a fee is charged for each exhibition, details of this and further information regarding the terms and conditions of exhibiting with us can be found in the proposal form.

Deadline for submissions: Sunday 17 April 2016. We will contact successful applicants by the 15 May 2016.

Open submission exhibition (now closed)

Leytonstone Arts Trail is calling for artwork in response to the theme of Process and Preparation for an exhibition at the Stone Space from 4 to 28 February 2016.

The show hopes to provide insights into the working methods of local artists and provide a chance for visitors to get a tantalizing glimpse of the wealth of work that will be on show in the summer as part of the Leytonstone Arts Trail.

We are looking for work that shows the thought processes, risk-taking and creative environments of a whole range of artists. We welcome preparatory work from right across the spectrum such as artists’ proofs, studio photographs, texts, mockups, sketches, models, drafts, experiments and sketchbooks.

Artists are invited to submit images of up to three pieces for consideration to Mail@Leytonstoneartstrail.org

All media will be considered (please provide details of media, dimensions, and price if the work is for sale). Any size of work will be considered but please be aware that this is a group exhibition and take the size of the gallery into account. Details regarding the size of the gallery space are available here.

The deadline for submissions has been extended to Monday 11 January 2016. There is no charge to submit work and all submissions received before the deadline will be acknowledged.

Call for proposals for December 2015 exhibition opportunity (now closed)

Due to changes to our exhibition programme connected to the refurbishment of the adjacent library building, we are urgently seeking proposals for a 3 week exhibition starting on 3 December 2015. All media and exhibition formats (solo shows, group shows and residencies) will be considered and we are happy to accept applications from groups and curators as well as individuals.

To apply please complete and return our proposal form to stonespace.enquiries@gmail.com with ‘Proposal for December 2015’ in the email title. Please also include information to demonstrate prior experience of curating or organising exhibitions if relevant to your proposal. (The proposal form can be found here on this website along with a plan of the gallery that gives dimensions of the space) Please note that the gallery is run by volunteers and receives very little funding. To cover basic costs a small fee is charged for each exhibition which in this instance will be reduced to £100. Further information regarding the terms and conditions of exhibiting with us is outlined in the proposal form.

Deadline for submissions: Friday 4 September 2015. We will contact successful applicants by Friday 11 September 2015.

A SpaceBetween (now closed)

Studio4 are organising a group show at The Stone Space from 5 to 29 November 2015 (a private view will be held on Friday 6 November).

The exhibition will be titled ‘A spacebetween’ and they are looking for artists whose work goes beyond figuration and inhabits the space between perceived reality and abstraction.

To apply: Artists are invited to submit images of 2 pieces of work for consideration along with a short statement explaining how they feel their work relates to the exhibition theme to wearestudiofour@gmail.com. All media will be considered (please provide details of media, dimensions, price etc.). Details regarding the size of the gallery space are available on the Stone Space website.

Deadline for submissions: Saturday 5 September 2015. There is no charge to submit work and all submissions received before the deadline will be acknowledged. Artists who are selected to exhibit will be asked to contribute a small sum to cover the costs of printing flyers and the private view, expected to be approx £10. A commission of 40% will apply to any works sold.

Minutiae

The Stone Space invites Artists to submit works for an open call exhibition titled “Minutiae”. All types of media are welcome. Minutiae; by definition, precise details, small trifling or trivial matters, in science, biometrics and forensics comparisons in fingerprints e.g.; ridge ending, a single edge that divides into two ridges. Allowing diverse interpretations in scale, mark making and concept. That which is extremely important could be presented on a very small scale, conversely, that which is “trivial” on a large format. The mark making itself could become the focus. All mediums will be considered and we look forward to what should prove to be a varied, stimulating and interesting show. One Day’s Walk

The Stone Space invites artists to submit works for an open call exhibition titled ‘1 Day’s Walk’, an exhibition celebrating all things Leytonstone. Many of the visitors to the Olympics this summer will pass through Leytonstone, but the town is so much more than a stepping stone to this year’s games, and we want to make sure that we get across the flavour of Leytonstone to visitors!!  We are calling for submissions from artists who have an affiliation with Leytonstone, who live in the area or nearby, or who have grown up here and have memories of the town, or those who just feel they have something to say about the town no matter where they come from! Inclusions

Inclusions The Stone Space invites artists to submit works for an open call exhibition titled ‘Inclusions’. All media will be considered, this exhibition is intended to offer an opportunity for artists whose work is not easily categorised.
