Sebastian Muscio is concerned with the idea of originality and has developed a personal method of working, in which he re-considers the use of traditional ‘hierarchical’ composition. Sebastian explores repetition and accumulation as forms of composition and uses mechanical means to produce work, such as the use of patterns or grids, shielding off areas, and layering.
For this exhibition the artist has continued using traditional painting media such as oils and acrylics, applying multiple layers of thin paint to create patterns against a plain colour background. Each layer consists of hand-drawn, random geometrical figures in a process that is repeated gradually, with some layers re-painted several times and others only once.
Sebastian was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied art in Argentina, and at the atelier of the artist Pablo Siquier in Buenos Aires, and now lives and works in London.
