  1. I am a Leytonstone resident who is very interested in participating (some day) in perhaps a ‘local residents exhibition’ at the gallery. Following a visit to The Stone Space, an email was sent along with some pictures of my work. A generic automated response was received but nothing more than that.

The gallery is great for the area and there is clearly a wealth of talented residents who would appreciate the opportunity to showcase a piece/s of their work there.

    Contact would be appreciated.

    • Dear Jackie – Thank you for your comment. The reply that you received was not automated but sent from one of our stone space volunteers. As you may know the gallery is run by a small team of volunteers who give up their time freely to invigilate and organise exhibitions at the stone space. Since opening we have planned 5 shows and are busy co-ordinating exhibitions that will take us up to March. We welcome your proposal and you may have noticed that on the website there is a proposal form for download under the opportunities section. (here) Please print out and fill in the form and hand it in at the stone space (if not open you can leave at the library for us) and we will get back in touch with you. As you can imagine from the success of the shows so far we have a large number of requests from artists wishing to place work on the walls, and yes of course we realise that there is a large creative community in Leytonstone – most of the volunteers running the gallery are in fact artists themselves. Really look forward to seeing your proposal and hopefully your work on the walls / window / floor of the stone space – best wishes – Carne

  3. Dear stone space people,

By “inviting artists to make a proposal to exhibit”, do you mean to hire the gallery space?

    All the best,
    Maria

    • Hi Maria, We require that an artist submits a cohesive exhibition plan to show work at the stone space. The available forms attached to this page detail the process. Exhibitions that are approved by the Stone Space panel will be allocated a show at the gallery. There is a fee for gallery hire, but this is flexible depending upon the requirements of the artist and nature of the exhibition.

  4. Thanks for the response.
I am a research student ‘moving between’ Greece and the UK and need a gallery space to test the ideas of my research project. I will put my application together with the main ideas of my project.

    All the best,
    Maria

  5. Hi Stone Space,

I am very interested contributing a group exhibition or putting on an exhibition of my work (manipulated digital images of London and Yorkshire landscapes) and I would be interested in how to claim an arts council grant for the framing and printing costs.

    Yours in Friendship,

    Mike Hoyle

    • Dear Mike, thank you for your message, we look forward to receiving a proposal from you. At this stage it would be best for you to fill in the proposal form downloaded from this site, then we will see if we can help point you in the right direction to attract funding for your project.

  6. I am a amator painter, and I am interested to know if I can expose some of my work at your space for a few days, (less then a week ).

    All the best,
    Ramona

    • Dear Ramona, At present exhibitions are usually a minimum of 2-3 weeks. If that isn’t suitable perhaps consider submitting work to one of group exhibitions when we issue a call for entries. Sign up to our mailing list to be informed of opportunities as they arise.

  8. I want to display my paintings in the gallery as it provides the best oppertunity to artists to exhibit their work. Can i get a chance to meet the stonespace panel in that case or all i have to do is to fill the form and submit it.one other thing,if i dont want to follow any one theme and exhibit different paintings like landscapes, forest ,abstract …is this possible?

    Posted by Aisha | June 14, 2012, 10:10 pm
    • Hi Aisha, Initially it is best if you submit the form, so we can consider your proposal and come back to you directly. It is up to you to decide what the theme is and how your work is connected together, however it is a good idea to think of something which will make a coherent show.

You are welcome to visit the gallery when it is open to get an idea of the space, and if you would like to meet one or two of the organisers please email mail@thestonespace.com and we can sort something out (or just let you know when one of the organisers will be invigilating). However it is our quiet time over summer so there might be a little wait until one or two of the organisers are free to meet with you. I hope this helps, do drop us a mail if you still want to meet or have any questions. I look forward to seeing your proposal.

      Cheers,
      Flash

  9. Hi Flash, I am a local stop-motion animator and I am interested in residency opportunities at the gallery. Ideally I would like to produce a video and offer animation workshops to interested parties throughout a month long project. Here is a link to my youtube page with examples of my work… https://www.youtube.com/edudsufur
    All the best!

    • Hi Ruth,

Thanks for your post. We’re thinking of having our next residency early 2014. There will be a call for proposal in the coming months. Watch this space…
